Wolfe, 304/285-5883 NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Toxicology and Molecular Biology Branch, HELD in Morgantown, WV is currently involved in a study to evaluate the association of genetic polymorphisms in the TNFa gene cluster on chromosome 6 and the IL-1 gene cluster on chromosome 2 (2q13) with occupational asthma. The study will re-investigate those subjects in whom a diagnosis of occupational asthma was confirmed in the past 10 years. The study will evaluate the presence of genetic polymorphisms in workers with occupational asthma. To develop a protocol, it is necessary to acquire blood samples from workers collected at the Hospital du Sacre-Coeur de Montreal, Montreal-Quebec, Canada, with accompanying epidemiological and occupational profiles. The only resource available for this study is through Burleson Research Technologies, Inc., Raleigh, NC, who has a contract with the above referenced hospital to acquire blood and sputum samples from workers for diagnosis of occupational lung disease. Our intent is to contract with Burleson Research Technologies, Inc., to provide 200 blood samples (100 occupational asthma and 100 falling into one of the other categories; general asthma, other pulmonary diagnosis or no disease). There is no other known source available, however, if there are vendors having the capabilities necessary to meet the stated requirements, they are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures and references to Brenda L.
