E-MAIL: Jessica M. Lally, jessica.m.lally1@jsc.nasa.gov. NASA/JSC plans to issue a Request For Information (RFI) on GPS Preamp/Filter Units for X-38 via the internet, on the or about May 15, 2000. NASA/JSC has a requirement for 16 space-qualified Global Positioning System (GPS) preamplifier/filter units. The desired delivery schedule is the first 8 preamplifier/filter units in 3 months after the award of contract and the following 8 will be supplied 3 months thereafter. Qualification and acceptance testing is required by the vendor. The vendor has the option of performing the tests at the vendor's facilities or supporting the testing at JSC facilities. The GPS preamplifier/filter units will have with the following electronic and physical characteristics while meeting the stated environmental conditions: Electronic Characteristics Operating Frequency (L1): 1575 MHz +/- 2 MHz (min) Input Impedance: 50 Ohms with a tolerance specified by the VSWR variation. Gain: 60 + 2 dB Third Order Intercept: > 10 dBm Power Output at the 1 dB Compression Point: > 0.0 dBm Out-of-Band Rejection: The preamplifier/filter unit's out-of-band rejection will meet the following: Out of Band Rejection Frequency >40 dB 410 MHz<F<420 MHz >75 dB 950 MHz<F<1150 MHz >75 dB 2200 MHz <F< 2300 MHz >40 dB 2300 MHz <F< 4000 MHz Table 1: Filter Characteristics Power Supplied: Constant voltage between 24 and 33 VDC Performance requirements include the following: VSWR Variation: < 1.5 to 1 over the operating frequency specified Load Isolation: No damage will occur when the load is %:1. Noise Figure (with filter): < 2.8 dB Gain Flatness: To be evaluated. Gain Stability: To be evaluated. Phase Stability: To be evaluated. Phase Tracking: To be evaluated. Power Required (Current): To be evaluated Physical Characteristics: Envelope: To be evaluated RF Connector: SMA straight connector is desired. Power Connector: Connector is required. Type is to be evaluated. Grounding: The DC power return is desired to be isolated from chassis-to-structure mount a minimum of 1 Megaohm. The RF signal return is desired to be isolated from chassis-to-structure mount a minimum of 1 Megaohm. The power return and RF return is desired to be isolated from each other a minimum of 1 Megaohm. Sealing: If the RF preamplifier/filter components are assembled as a hybrid microwave integrated circuit with chip devices, then its package must be sealed to prevent the entrance of moisture and other contaminants. The package will have a leak rate of no greater than 1 x 10-5 ATM cm3/sec. On the other hand, if the components are assembled as an interconnection of lumped elements, then no sealing requirement exists for the component and venting will be used. Environmental Conditions: Operating Gravitational Field: down to 0 g Non-operating Design Load: 40 g's Non-operating Vibration limits: see Table 1 below Table 1: Random Vibration Qualification Test Levels QUALIFICATION FOR NON-PALLET EQUIPMENT Frequency (Hz) Magnitude (g2/Hz) 20 0.02 80 0.10 400 0.10 2000 0.01 Grms = 9.05 Notes : Duration is 4 minutes per axis Operating Pressure Range: 15.2 psia to 5.5 x 10-12 psia Operating Temperature Range: -65 0F to +191 0F, Operating Thermal/Vacuum Cycling Conditions: The antenna will be tested 5 cycles per Figure 1, with maximum and minimum levels +/- margin shown in the left margin. The rate of temperature will not exceed 4.00 F per minute, nor be less than 1.00 F per minute. Figure 1: Thermal Cycles and Thermal Vacuum Cycles for Qualification Testing Note: A = Time to stabilize antenna temperature plus 1-hour minimum B = VSWR measurement to be performed C = VSWR monitoring during temperature transition EMI/EMC: Will meet emission and susceptibility requirements in Mil-STD 461 D Data Deliverables: Vendor will be required to supply the following information: 1) Compliance Matrix 2) Outline Drawing(s) 3) Bill of Materials (BOM) List 4) Certificate of Compliance 5) MTBF numbers 6) EEE Parts Selection Process/Selection/Analysis (optional) 7) Acceptancetest plan/procedures/results 8) Mechanical stress analysis (optional) 9) Fracture control analysis (optional) This document is for information and planning purposes and to allow industry the opportunity to verify reasonableness and feasibility of the requirement, as well as promote competition.
