Guess, Contracting Officer (412) 386-6826 The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is currently involved with efforts to reduce hearing loss within the construction industry. The objective of this research effort is to conduct behavioral observation of apprentice carpenters' hearing protector use and hearing health associated behaviors. The Contractor will design and conduct a behavioral evaluation component of the hearing loss prevention program for two groups of carpenter apprentices -- an experimental and a control group. This will require the development of a behavioral observation assessment methodology capable of quantitatively and qualitatively determining use and associated hearing health behaviors at baseline (pre-training), after training, and at one-year followup.
