B -- PUERTO RICO DIABETES PREVENTION, CONTROL, RESEARCH AND EVALUATION SOL 2000N00084 DUE 071700 POC Margie Usry, Contract Specialist, (770) 488-2651, Mail Stop K-18 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC) intends to award a sole source contract to University of Puerto Rico, School of Public Health, San Juan, PR, as directed by Congress in FY2000 Report #1065-419 to accompany HR 3064 (Department of Labor, Health, and Human Services, and Education and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill, 2000) -- Committee Report dated November 17, 1999. The contractor will provide technical leadership and consultation in the continued development of a public health surveillance system for Puerto Rico that will provide data on the burden of diabetes, its associated risk factors and complications, and other chronic diseases and co-morbidities. Public health surveillance data will be collected and used to monitor trends in diabetes prevalence and changes in diabetes-related complications and behavioral risk factors. Contractor will establish and maintain a Diabetes Data Management Center for Puerto Rico for current surveillance and other relevant data which will be reportable to government officials, public health administrators, voluntary health organizations, and the public. The anticipated performance period is one year from date of award which is anticipated on or about September 15, 2000. It is believed that the University of Puerto Rico possesses the capability and is uniquely qualified to perform these tasks due to the fact that the contractor has expertise to build public health surveillance systems and to provide scientific consultation regarding the prevalence of diabetes in Puerto Rico.
