Surveillance, Hazard Evaluation and Field Studies, of the National
Institute For Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) requires a pilot
project to test approaches for communicating with women workers in the
dry cleaning industry about increased risk of cervical cancer related
to chemical exposures. The following set of tasks need to be
accomplished: 1) randomly select samples of women dry cleaners as study
subjects; 2) obtain their consent to participate in a NIOSH
intervention research study of women dry cleaners; conduct telephone
interviews of subjects concerning their knowledge of their occupational
risks as dry cleaners, their understanding of ways to reduce their
risks and protect their health, and their cervical screening practices
and intentions; 3) analyze the data set; and 4) prepare a written
report of the collaborative process among NIOSH and its study partners,
and of the hypothesized outcome. The potential contractors must meet
the following minimum, qualifications in order for their quote to be
considered: 1) A minimum total of 10 years or more experience in a mix
of the following disciplines: Sociology/Psycho-Social Behavior
Research, Health Communiction Research, Occupational Safety and Health
Research, Epidemiologic Research; 2) The primary investigator must
have a minimum of 10 years experience in evaluation research and a
minimum education level of Ph. D.; and 3) The contractor must provide
evidence of past research and related publications. Requests for the
