J -- MOTOR VEHICLE AIR CONDITIONING CONVERTION FROM R12 TO R13A REFRIGERANT POC Barbara Banks, Contract Specialist, Code 891, (912)439-6761 This is a Market Survey to locate sources to conduct conversion of Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning (MVAC) Systems as installed on P & H Cranes, Model HSHMC. Conversion is to include development of procedures, identifying components, procurement of components, and development of conversion parts kits. The HSHM Cranes are equipped with MVAC systems manufactured by Eagle Manufacturing. There are two MVAC systems per crane, upper cab system and lower cab system. These items operate on a 24-volt system. The lower cab MVAC system compressor is belt driven by the vehicle engine with the condenser mounted in front of the vehicle engine radiator. The upper cab MVAC system compressor is belt driven by a hydraulic motor located behind the upper cab. The condenser is mounted on the rear of the upper cab and air is forced through the condenser by two-24 volt electric fans. Both the upper and lower cab MVAC systems are R12 refrigerant systems. The Marine Corps has a requirement to convert P & H Cranes, Model HSHMC Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning (MVAC) system from R12 to R134A refrigerant. HSHM Cranes are available for inspection at Marine Corps Logistics Bases, Albany, GA and Barstow, CA. Inspection should be used to determine acceptability of the R12 system to R134A. A basic conversion that uses minimal parts replacement resulting in satisfactory performance is desired. Successful Offeror shall conduct a prototype basic conversion on an operational HSHMC Crane located at Marine Corps Logistics Bases, Albany, GA. Successful Offeror shall provide conversion kits over packed with written instructions identifying task and tools required to conduct the conversion. Our intent is to solicit by Full and Open Competition and this notice is issued to determine whether commercial contractors are interested in competing for this requirement. All responsible sources may respond to the synopsis and all such responses will be fully considered by this agency. No contract award will be made on the basis of any responsesto this notice because the sources sought synopsis shall not be considered as a solicitation. No solicitation document exists and no telephone inquiries will be accepted.
