anticipates award of a requirements contract that will cover FY 01-05
service requirements related to the Trident, Guppy I Mod E, and Seawolf
submarine storage batteries. This will be a sole-source procurement to
GNB Industrial Battery Company, Kankakee, IL based on FAR 6.302-1,
i.e., only one responsible source and no other type of services will
satisfy agency requirements. Requirements covered will be field and
maintenance services for GNB main storage batteries on submarines that
are in service and not under construction. As part of the field
services effort the contractor will be required to make routine visits
at least once a year to each submarine as authorized by the Government
and make emergency visits as authorized. The maintenance portion of the
effort requires the contractor to have a complete maintenance program
for all batteries on submarines. Engineering and production support
services require the contractor to provide engineering efforts for new
GNB submarine batteries in electrical and mechanical design issues for
existing and new construction installations and evaluate battery
operating procedures for new GNB submarine battery designs for existing
and new construction installations. Requirements specific to battery
type require assistance in the planning, installation, testing,
checkout, adjustment, disassembly and repair of submarine battery
cells; and performance of on-the-job instruction and training of Navy
personnel (military and/or civilian). Activation and initial cycling
requirements will exist for FYs 03-05. Requirements for battery storage
will also be covered under the anticipated requirements contract. The
applicable Standard Industrial Classification is 8711 and the size
standard is $20M. A Confidential Security Clearance is required.
