NASA/MSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for Enhanced UV Source to include the following: ITEM 1: 1000 WATT ENHANCED ULTRAVIOLET SOLAR SIMULATOR, 8 INCH X 8 INCH BEAM SIZE, DICHROIC MIRROR SYSTEM WHICH ABSORBS 80% INFRARED RADIATION, LAMP HOUSING EASILY CHANGED TO PRODUCE VERTICAL OR HORIZONTAL BEAM, TRANSMITS ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION FROM 210 NM TO 400 NM, IGNITOR EXTERNAL TO LAMP HOUSING, POWER SUPPLY TO OPERATE LAMP INCLUDED, POWER SUPPLY TO OPERATE WITH 220 VAC 1PHASE. ORIEL MODEL NUMBER 91294 (OR EQUIVALENT). QUANTITY: 1 EACH. ITEM 2: AIR MASS 0 OUTER SPACE FILTER, CORRECTS THE OUTPUT OF A XENON LAMP TO BETTER MATCH THE SOLAR SPECTRUM FOUND OUTSIDE THE EARTH'S ATMOSPHERE, COMPATIBLE WITH ITEM 1, ORIEL MODEL NUMBER 81011 (OR EQUIVALENT). QUANTITY: 1 EACH. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/MSFC intends to purchase the items from Oriel Instruments, 150 Long Beach Blvd., Stratford, CT. This recommendation is made pursuant to FAR 13.106-1(b)(1). The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on May 9, 2000. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
