70 -- ANNUAL MAINTENANCE FOR EIGHT (8) AMPEX TAPE RECORDERS SOL 00CRQQ0204 DUE 061200 POC Robert Valdez, (303) 236-5900 ext 424 Concerns having the ability to furnish the following annual maintenance for eight (8) Ampex Tape Recorders described herein are requested to give written notification (including the telephone number for a point of contact) to the procuring office above. Salient characteristics: U.S. Geological Survey, EROS Data Center (EDC), Sioux Falls, SD has a requirement for hardware maintenance and support for Ampex tape recorders. The EDC currently has eight (8) Ampex tape drives that are used in support of the Wide Band Video (WBV0 project, Thermatic mapper and MultiSpectral Scanner (MSS) Archive Conversion System (TMACS), and the national Landsat Archive Production System (NLAPS). The TMACS system is used to convert older Landsat data to a new, more compact archive storage media. This project has saved valuable storage space as well as ensured that the data is transferred to new media before the old media becomes unstable and unreadable. The NLAPS produces a variety of Landsat end-user products, on request, from the Landsat Archive created by the TMACS. Vendor shall be required to supply all materials, labor and facilities required for the Ampex tape recorder repairs. Vendor shall be required to complete the repairs and certify that the newly repaired drives have been returned to the specified performance and features as designed from the manufacturer. The only limitation to this requirement is that two consumable parts, the scanner tip for each drive and the head assemblies for the model 3025 and the HBR-3000I, are not covered by this requirement. The EDC will acquire these tips and head assemblies as needed. The labor and associated parts will be the responsibility of the vendor. Repairs and labor may require on-site or off site maintenance. Based on information available at this time and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253 (1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the item specified as a sole source from Ampex Data Systems, Corp, 500 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063 and proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required item or its functional equivalent (based upon the criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures and such other materials which correspond to the required items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists, requests for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement. Posted 05/01/00 (W-SN450084). (0122)
