a modification to the synopsis entitled Advanced Laser Ignition
Technology Demonstration, Solicitation No. 8-1-0-T6-C7514 which was
posted on March 13, 2000. You are notified that the synopsis is deleted
in its entirety. The Government has determined that this effort will be
converted from a sole source to competitive. The following replaces the
synopsis posted on March 13, 2000. The Government plans to issue a
Request for Quote (RFQ) for Advanced Laser Ignition Technology
Demonstration. The Government is investigating a new ignition concept
using a laser source. Such an ignition system will be utilized in the
hydrocarbon fuel rocket-based combined cycle engines and other furture
engines. This effort is intended to support the technology development
for 3rd generation Spaceline systems. The goal of the 3rd generation
systems is to significantly increase margins of safety, reliability,
and cost reduction. To help demonstrate the advantages and capabilities
of a laser ignition system, the Government plans to set up the laser
ignition system and to test it in actual rocket engine environments.
Ultimately, success of this demonstration will lead to the design of an
initial concept of a laser ignition unit to be used in flight. This
procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition
Procedures (SAP). The Government does not intend to acquire a
commercial item using FAR Part 12. See Note 26. This procurement is a
total small business set-aside. See Note 1. The SIC code and size
standard are 8731 and average annual gross revenue of $2.5,
respectively. The DPAS Rating for this procurment is DO-C9. The
anticipated release date of RFQ 8-1-0-T6-C7514 is on or about May 16,
2000 with an anticipated quote due date of on or about May 30, 2000.
