hansfordbj@navair.navy.mil. This is a SOURCES SOUGHT for engineering
support and assistance of the Acoustic Technology Branch of Naval Air
Warfare Center, Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), Patuxent River. The
Acoustic Technology Branch is responsible for the design, development,
construction, and testing of all expendable, air deployable ASW
sonobuoys. This includes the initial research of the component
technology and subsystems as well as the construction of over-the-side
and air launched fully capable advanced and engineering development
models, as well as the testing of this experimental hardware at sea.
The purpose of this contract is to provide a vehicle where
modifications to existing buoys or prototypes can be performed/produced
and tested quickly and efficiently to determine if these changes will
provide improved performance and if a full scale engineering
investigation to refine the modifications will be cost effective. The
tasks will include: 1. Analysis of possible designs for hardware and/or
software to be used in sonobuoys2. Analysis of operational use of
present or future sonobuoy designs 3. Analysis of acoustic data
collected from various targets, sources, and/or locations 4.
Feasibility studies for improvements to sonobuoys or processing of
their data 5. Engineering investigations of present and/or future
sonobuoy designs and processing 6. Data collection and/or reduction of
data from various targets, sources, and/or locations 7. Providing
prototype sonobuoy hardware/software and/or sub-assemblies, and
associated analysis 8. Providing modified sonobuoys with prototype
hardware/software and/or subassemblies, and associated analysis 9.
Support and/or perform testing of prototype equipment during evaluation
in the laboratory, at sea, or other locations 10. Develop, debug and
provide software for the sonobuoy program 11. Tasks may include cost
and schedule estimates for incorporation hardware and/or software in
development of production sonobuoys. Any contractor responding to this
notice is expected to have the capability of mass producing the
sonobuoys. The anticipated contract type is Cost Plus Fixed Fee, and
will consist of one base year and four option years. NOTE: THIS IS NOT
A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL. THIS IS NOT A FORMAL PROCUREMENT AND THEREFORE
IS NOT A SOLICITATION. THIS NOTICE IS NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS A
