E-MAIL: Artistine R. Lethcoe-Reid, A.LETHCOE-REID@larc.nasa.gov. NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for Two (2) each of a Tunable 1550nm Fiber Coupled Laser. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from New Focus, Inc. because of their lasers capability of performing to the levels needed for highly distributed nature of measurements, coupled with noise immunity and low mass which is a critical element in NASA's Integrated Vehicle Health Monitoring Program. The required lasers needed from New Focus are covered under US Patent #5,139,668. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on May 18, 2000. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government.
