The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to negotiate a Purchase Order with TransTech Systems, Inc. to upgrade ten (10)existing Pavement Quality Indicator (PQI) devices being evaluated as part of a Regional Pooled Funds Study entitled "Evaluation of the TransTech PQI next Generation Device." The PQI is a non-nuclear, device used to measure the in-place density of asphalt pavement. The PQI uses capacitance technology to measure density. Because TransTech developed the PQI device, they are the only source available for this requirement. This is a Simplified Acquisition and anticipated award date is May 17, 2000.
