Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC, a prime contractor for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is seeking a commercial firm to provide volume reduction services for solid and aqueous liquid low-level radioactive waste (LLW) generated by the Idaho National Environmental and Engineering Laboratory (INEEL). The INEEL generates approximately 2,800 cubic meters per year of solid LLW requiring volume reduction prior to onsite disposal. Of the 2,800 cubic meters, approximately 2,300 cubic meters consists of dry activated wastes suitable for incineration and/or compaction and 500 cubic meters consists of bulk metals and wood suitable for sizing. The INEEL generates approximately 10,000 gallons per year of liquid LLW suitable for evaporation, solidification, or ion-exchange. Commercial services shall also include waste transportation from the INEEL to the private sector facility and transportation of the volume-reduced/residual LLW back to the INEEL for onsite disposal. Commercial firms must currently possess all permits, licenses, and facilities necessary to provide the services described herein.
