COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 10,2000 PSA#2597AIR FORCE 2000 SUMMER FACULTY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM (SFFP) Air Force
Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) 2000 Summer Faculty Fellowship
Program (SFFP) Application Deadline Date: June 5, 2000 (all application
materials must be received at the National Research Council by this
date). PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: To complement research efforts and build
critical links between Air Force scientists and their counterparts in
the academic community, AFOSR announces the year 2000 Summer Faculty
Fellowship Program. This program is administered by the National
Research Council (NRC) which provides the oversight and administrative
structure for the selection and appointment of applicants. The
laboratory facilities and research support are provided by the host Air
Force laboratory where the Summer Faculty awardees will be in full time
residence for the duration of the summer award. No other employment or
remuneration is permitted during the period of the award. Under the
SFFP, US college, university, or technical institute faculty members
(known as SFFP fellows) perform mentor-based research in areas of
interest to the Air Force in Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL)
research facilities. The objectives of the Summer Faculty Fellowship
Program are to stimulate professional relationships among SFFP fellows
and the scientists and engineers in AFRL Technical Directorates and
other Air Force research facilities; enhance the research interests and
capabilities of faculty (both new and experienced researchers) in the
US academic community; elevate the awareness in the US academic
community of Air Force research needs and foster continued research at
SFFP fellows' institutions; provide the faculty fellows opportunities
to perform high-quality and meaningful research at AFRL Technical
Directorates and other Air Force research facilities; provide
nationally accredited mentoring of academic researchers at AFRL
Technical Directorates and other Air Force research facilities. During
the summer the faculty, under the mentorship of Air Force researchers,
will conduct research at Air Force research facilities for a continuous
period (other than federal holidays and weekends) of six (6) to eleven
(11) weeks between July 17 to September 30, 2000 (for subsequent
years, the program will be for eight (8) to fourteen (14) weeks between
April 1 to September 30). SFFP fellows may choose to perform their
research at the Air Force facilities listed below, but only in those
research areas listed and approved for the AFRL Associateship Program
and with NRC approved Research Advisers. The Summer Faculty Fellows
must submit a research report at the completion of their summer
appointment. The participating Technical Directorates plus the Air
Force Academy are: AFRL Directorates Office Symbol Air Vehicles AFRL/VA
Directed Energy AFRL/DE Human Effectiveness AFRL/HE Information AFRL/IF
