The United States Agency for International Development in Dhaka, Bangladesh USAID/Bangladesh), plans to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to implement Phase II of its Agrobased Industries and Technology Development Project (ATDP-II). The RFP is expected to be released on June 1, 2000 and the closing date for receipt of proposals is expected to be August 6, 2000. USAID anticipates awarding a five-year performance-based cost-reimbursement contract to implement ATDP-II. The RFP will contain background information and sources for reference materials on ATDP Phase I, which began in 1995, and focused on fruits, vegetables, shrimp, poultry, dairy, feed grains, seed, blended fertilizer and urea super granules. ATDP-II will contribute to USAID/Bangladesh's Strategic Objective 5, "Growth of Agribusiness and Small Business" by providing technical and managerial assistance to private sector entrepreneurs and private and public support institutions to promote the growth of agribusiness in Bangladesh. ATDP -II will focus on the sectors of horticulture, fisheries, livestock, grain and oilseed processing, seed, fertilizers and agrimachinery and will support the development of privately owned and operated agribusinesses operating in a free and competitive market environment. ATDP-II activities fall into three broad categories: policy, legal, and regulatory improvements; institutional development and reform; and enterprise development.
