Notice of intent to award a contract on a sole source basis. The Department of Energy (DOE), Oakland Operations Office intends to negotiate and award a five (5) year contract, on a sole source basis, with General Atomics (GA) in San Diego, CA to continue the development and fabrication of Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) targets for the DOE ICF program. General Atomics will: 1) develop, fabricate, and deliver specified targets, target components, and associated support systems; 2) develop and apply target component characterization and metrology methodologies; and 3) perform other ICF target related technology development tasks in support of the five laboratories conducting ICF experimental programs (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Laboratory, University of Rochester/Laboratory of Laser Energetics and the Naval Research Laboratory). For over ten years General Atomics has developed and fabricated of ICF targets and target components and performed related ICF target technology development for the DOE. General Atomics' aggregate set of capabilities (personnel, facilities including a tritium handling license, equipment, technical expertise and experience) represents a unique capability for ICF target manufacturing and related target technology development in support of the ICF program.
