Healthcare System (GLAHS) has a requirement for up to 4.0 Full Time
Equivalent (FTE) Anesthesiologist Services, effective for a one year
period, from July 1, 2000 to June 30, 2001. All Anesthesiologists must
be Board Certified or Board Eligible. Up to 1.0 FTE is required for
each of the following subspecialties: Cardiac, Pain Management,
Intensive Care Unit, and Research. Anesthesiologists will be required
to provide services during normal clinic hours of 7:30 am to 4:00 pm,
Monday to Friday, and during selected evenings. Services required under
this solicitation are determined to be commercially available. General
duties include but are not limited to the following: 1)
Anesthesiologist shall arrive a minimum of one half hour in advance of
scheduled start of surgery (8:00 am) to conduct an examination of the
first patient before surgery, start IV's, pre-medicate patients, and
perform any other necessary duties to ensure proper care of patient.
Anesthesiologist will assist inSurgery, then accompany each patient to
the recovery area, stay until vital signs are confirmed to be stable
after anesthesia and then transfer care to the recovery nurse before
proceeding to the next scheduled surgery. 2) Prior to each surgery,
Anesthesiologist shall re-evaluate the patient prior to anesthesia and
develop and carry out the anesthetic plan, providing general
anesthesia, regional anesthesia, monitored anesthesia care/intravenous
sedation, and initiating nerve block procedures to facilitate
post-operative pain management as indicated by the patient's condition
and anticipated surgery. The Anesthesiologist shall oversee the
recovery period management of cardiovascular, pulmonary, and metabolic
homeostastis, pain relief, and any anesthesia side effects, and manage
any emergency situations during the surgery. 3) Anesthesiologist will
be expected to develop algorithms for surgical staff to triage patients
exhibiting little risk for surgery, thus allowing time for
Anesthesiologist to evaluate complicated patients prior to the day
surgery as well as to furnish consultations, diagnostic studies, etc.
4) Anesthesiologist shall actively participate in all TQI/QA activities
required of GLAHS Surgery. 5) Anesthesiologist will be responsible for
the technical and professional direction of CRNA's and/or Residents at
GLAHS. Full and open competition will be sought. All businesses are
