Wolfe, 304/285-5883 NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Biostatistics Branch, HELD in Morgantown, WV is currently involved in a project entitled " Parkinsonism, Pesticide, and Markers of Neurotoxic Effect." Initial work of this award will focus on the preparation and delivery of microscope slides of brain tissue from the Hawaii-Asia Aging study (HAAS) autopsy cohort, including processing, shipping, receiving and managing HAAS tissue specimens. Additional work under this award is anticipated which will correlate with the development of the project and may include processing, shipping, receiving, and managing other tissue specimens such as DNA extracted from any tissue specimen, whole blood plasma, serum, cerebral spinal fluid, and other autopsy tissues be it frozen, preserved, or processed for histological examination. The only resource available for this activity is the Pacific Health Research Institute (PHRI) who is the managing institution of all tissue specimens of the HAAS cohort. They are the only administrative body with the authority to directly manage HAAS specimen resources. This authority derives from a long-standing contractual agreement between PHRI and the National Institute on Aging (NIA) which sponsors and technically owns specimens collected under HAAS auspices. There is no other known source available, however, if there are vendors having the capabilities necessary to meet the stated requirements, they are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures and references to Brenda L.
