business concerns will be accepted for the Blue Ridge Parkway Project
PRA-BLRI 2G11 in Watauga County, North Carolina. The project consists
of resurfacing, drainage and other miscellaneous work from Milepost
291.7 at the NC Route 321 interchange, to Milepost 298.6 at Holloway
Mountain Road. Project work includes roadway excavation; placement of
aggregate base; placement of aggregate-topsoil; hot asphalt concrete
pavement; installation of stone curb and guardrail; removal and
resetting of stone masonry; pavement striping; erosion control mat;
construction traffic control; and other miscellaneous work. Principal
items of work and approximate quantities are as follows: Silt fence
1,650 m: Removal of 11,000 m2 asphalt pavement; Removal of 1,200 m2
asphalt sidewalk; Roadway excavation 2,000 m3; Aggregate base, grading
D, 1,170 t; Aggregate-topsoil course, 7,300 t; Hot asphalt concrete
pavement, class C, grading D, type 2 pavement smoothness 16,000 t; Hot
asphalt concrete pavement, classC, grading D, wedge or leveling
course, 3,200 t; Minor asphalt concrete, 165 t; Asphalt pavement, full
depth patch, type 1, 2,750 m2; Asphalt pavement, shallow depth patch,
type 1, 13,000 m2; Stone curb, type 1, 400 mm depth, 450 m; Asphalt
concrete sidewalk, 1,200 m2 ; Guardrail system SBTB, 550 m; Remove and

Pavement markings, type H, solid, 20,400 m. The project is expected to
fall within the price range of $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. Invitation
for Bids No. DTFH71-00-B-00024 will be issued on or about July 25,
2000. Bids will be opened on or about August 24, 2000 at 2:00 pm, local

Business Utilization has bonding programs to assist minority,
women-owned and disadvantaged business enterprises in acquiring
short-term capital and bonding assistance for transportation-related
contracts. Loans are available under the DOT Short Term Lending Program
(STLP) at prime interest rates up to $500,000 to provide accounts
receivable financing. The DOT Bonding Assistance Program enables firms
to apply for bid, performance and payment bonds up to $1,000,000 per
contract. DOT provides an 80 percent guaranty on the bond amount to a
