The U.S. Army CECOM Acquisition Center-Washington on behalf of the US
Army Communications Electronics Command (CECOM), Night Vision and
Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD), Humanitarian Demining Office
intends to negotiate a contract with Israel Aircraft Industries Ramta
for a Severe Duty Vegetation Shredder System. The shredder will open up
the general accessibility of the mined area, reduce impediments to
sweeping with hand held mine detectors, improve deminer visibility of
the threat, reduce the risk to the deminer by eliminating the hazardous
process of going into the minefield on foot to clear brush, and reduce
the need for hauling away residual cut vegetation. The vehicle based
system shall effectively remove dense vegetation from designated land
mined areas. The system consists of (a) the shredder with a rotating
drum with mounted knives, (b) the shredder support structure and
vehicle interface, (c) the shredder's diesel powered power pack, and
(d) the Caterpillar D7R crawler tractor (vehicle). The system operator
shall be capable of starting the shredder hydraulic power pack,
controlling the engine throttle, controlling the shredder drum speed,
controlling the lift jacks on the skid shoes, and monitoring
appropriate system functions from the control station on the vehicle.
The overall period of performance is eight (8) months. See Note 22.
