The Food and Drug Administration [FDA], Center for Food Safety & Applied Nurition [CFSAN], intends to award a purchase order using the simplified acquisition process for technical services to study antibiotic resistance of bacterial pathogens in mouse model system. Contractor shall work on site Monday through Friday with the FDA providing laboratory space in Laurel, Maryland. Contractor must have technical knowledge and expertise in microbiological techniques, biological sciences and use of common instruments such as pH meters, balances, centrifuges, incubators, and pipettors; plus, a critical requirement of 1 year or more experience in handling small animals and experience in using aseptic techniques for collection of blood and tissue samples for microbial culturing. Scope of Work: 1] one [1] person for technical assistance for implementing laboratory project; 2] conduct mouse infection experiments using human bacterial pathogen Samonella and observe mice for signs of infection; 3] Conduct mouse euthanasia, dissection, and organ disruption procedures to recover bacteria from infected organs using aseptic conditions; 4] Conduct microbiological experiments to enumerate bacteria in samples recovered from infected animals. Microbiological assays shall include the full range of experimentation from media preparation to calculation of data; and 5] Conduct experiments of the infection of cultured cells by Samonella pathogens and enumeration of bacteria recovered from infected cells.
