COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 17,2000 PSA#2602D -- IRS/CUSTOMS CMM EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE The Internal Revenue
Service (IRS) and the U.S. Customs Service (Customs) are sponsoring a
Joint Educational Conference on the Capability Maturity Model (CMM)
requirements. The IRS requires CMM Level 2 for all software development
projects and Customs is requiring CMM Level 2 for their upcoming
Customs Modernization effort. The IRS/Customs CMM Conference will take
place on June 21 & 22, 2000 at the New Carrollton Federal Building,
Lanham, MD. The conference is designed for small, HUBZone small, small
disadvantaged, 8(a), and women-owned small businesses engaged in
software development to learn about the CMM process, procedures for
certification, lessons learned, the IRS and Customs requirements, and
meet companies that can provide CMM assessments of your company.
Potential Topics include: (1) Project Planning: Disaster Insurance for
Small Software Projects, (2) Does the CMM Make Sense for Small
Businesses, (3) Mentoring with a CMM Level 2 Company, (4) The Journey
to CMM Level 2 Maturity for a SmallBusiness Government Contractor, (5)
A High ROI Methodology for ISO Certifications and SEI/CMM Maturity
Ratings, (6) Optimizing the CMM for Small Business, (7) The CMM Process
at Customs, (8) The IRS' CMM Pre- and Post-Award Requirements, (9)
speaker from Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology, and (10) a
speaker from Maryland's Software Industry Consortium. The conference
will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, June 21 and 22, 2000, from 9:00
a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Advance registration is required for attendance at
the conference. The conference will be limited to one person per
company and will be limited to 275 persons. There will be no walk-in
registration available, as access to the building will be limited to
those who have pre-registered. The deadline for registration is by
close of business, Wednesday, June 7, 2000. To register, you must send
