The port configuration of a BWM may vary from site to site. Full size BWMs (as an inication 23 BWMs out of 200) will be connected to over 32 E1/T1 trunks. Smaller BWMs will be connected to a variable number of E1 truncks(ranging from 12 down to 4 connections)interfaces will be required. The BWM shall provide interfaces of type E3/T3. Channel bank functionality is required to interwork with analogue SATCOM links. It shall be possible to run E1 interfaces according to pure ITU-T G.703 as well as according to ITU-T G.704 on top of G.703. To add flexibility to the system and to allow future expansion of the network it shall be possible to re-configure the BWMs interfaces. It shall be possible to upgrade the BWMs to cell switching technologies. With regard to the distribution of the BWMs which are the object of this procurement, the aim is to employ them in three different installation scenarios: BWM at sites belonging to the NATO stategic network (as an indication: 100 out of 200); BWM to connect SATCOM links (aas an indication: 27 out of 200);BWM deployed (or deployable) in theater (as an indication: 73 out of 200).
