Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD), Detachment Norfolk is conducting a survey of potential sources for a Ballistic Protection System for Small Craft. This is not a solicitation but a request for information. The information requested is for ballistic protection systems specifically capable of protecting vital craft components against small-arms fire up to and including 7.62mm (AK-47), 0.50 caliber, and 5.56mm ball rounds at various standoffs. Although the specific requirement is for ball type rounds, information on systems capable of protecting against other round types (i.e. armor piercing) is desired. The following information is requested: system description, system maturity (specifically provide previous experience with systems installed on small craft), marine compatibility, system cost, multiple hit capability, repair ability and maintainability, craft integration method (i.e. how is it attached or built in) and capability to upgrade level of protection. Requested physical characteristics include material, weight, and thickness. Copies of independent ballistic test data should also be included. Data submitted shall be marked following the guidance of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Part 27, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFAR) Part 227, and FAR 24.2. Data with restrictive marking will be handled in accordance with the restrictions thereto and the aforementioned regulations. A response to this announcement is not a prerequisite for participation in any future craft program, should such a program develop. Also, data provided will not be used to qualify prospective offerors for any future solicitations. NSWCCD will not pay or provide reimbursement for any costs incurred in the preparation and/or delivery of the requested information. Providers of the requested information are asked to respond within 14 days of this announcement.
