The Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division (NAWCAD) Patuxent River, MD is seeking test samples and information from potential sources for an Illuminator (flashlight) to be used by USN / USMC aircrew. This request is for samples and information for the purpose of establishing a list of USN / USMC approved items for possible future procurement. Inclusion on this list in no way guarantees any future procurement. Submitted illuminators shall be minimal in size and weight. The illuminator should have a feature for angling beam up to 90 degrees for hands free lighting. It shall produce light compatible with Night Vision Goggles (NVGs), pre-flight operations, and survival procedures. Any light coloring features shall be firmly attached, integrated or self-contained. The illuminator should produce enough light for pre-flight, in-flight, and survival scenarios (approximately 20 foot-candles) for at least 10 continuous hours. The light should have features for focusing beam and dimming. It should contain a spare bulb that can be easily replaced without tools. The illuminator shall be easy to operate (switch on/off and use) with one hand under all environmental conditions (arctic snow / ice, desert, marine, etc.) while wearing any current Aircrew Life Support Systems (ALSS) equipment and clothing (gloves). The illuminator shall be protected from inadvertent actuation. It shall integrate / fit into current ALSS without modification, should have a lanyard attachment point, should have an external mount/mounting clip, and shall not cause any interference or obstruction. The illuminator shall be made of quality materials that make item durable, reliable, waterproof, and shockproof. It should be safe and corrosion resistant. The item's exterior should be non-reflective and have color that prevents easy detection. The illuminator shall operate on standard/easily obtainable batteries that can be changed without tools. The illuminator should not require any special support equipment.
