jeffredj@nv.doe.gov. Bechtel Nevada is seeking information concerning
commercial vendors capable of designing and manufacturing three (3)
types of furnaces to be used for processing a tungsten heavy alloy
material. The three furnace applications are preheat, annealing, and
hydrogen sintering. Details specific to the three furnaces are as
follows: TUNGSTEN MATERIAL -- The material to be processed in these
furnaces is a tungsten heavy alloy with the following nominal
properties: Density: 1208 lb/cf. Specific Heat: 0.0321 btu/lb-F.
Thermal Conductivity: 94 btu/hr-ft-F. PREHEAT FURNACE -- The purpose of
this furnace will be to preheat parts prior to a rolling operation. The
furnace shall provide a continuous feed to an existing rolling mill
conveyor. Operating Temperature: 1000C. Part Sizes: 0.750"x28"x22";
0.750"x28"x26"; 0.640"x28"x26"; 0.640"x28"x30"; 0.490"x28"x34";
0.490"x28"x40"; 0.330"x28"x50"; 0.330"x28"x59". Atmosphere: air.
Throughput rate: one part every four minutes. ANNEALING FURNACE -- The
purpose of this furnace will be to anneal parts in preparation for
further rolling. The annealing furnace will be continuous feed with a
cooling chamber for reducing the part temperature to ambient.
Throughput capabilities may be achieved through the use of a single or
multiple furnaces. The choice of single or multiple furnaces should be
based on the most cost effective approach. Operating Temperature:
1200C. Part Sizes: 0.640"x28"x26"; 0.640"x28"x30"; 0.490"x28"x34";
0.490"x28"x40"; 0.330"x28"x50"; 0.330"x28"x59"; 0.250"x28"x66";
0.250"x28"x78". Atmosphere: nitrogen. Steady State Throughput rate: 115
parts/24 hours. Soak Time: 5 hours. HYDROGEN SINTERING FURNACE -- The
purpose for this furnace will be to sinter parts under a pure hydrogen
atmosphere. The atmosphere will be 80% wet hydrogen (21C dew point)
and 20% dry hydrogen. The tungsten heavy alloy parts will travel
through the furnace on a molybdenum boat/carrier to be defined by the
vendor. Operating Temperature: 1500C. Part sizes: 0.250"x28"x66";
0.250"x28"x78". Atmosphere: hydrogen. Steady State Throughput Rate: 12
parts/24 hours. Soak time: 2 hours. The purpose of this request is to
obtain information and identify potential subcontractors with
experience in the design and manufacture of high temperature furnaces.
Responses to this solicitation should include a description of the
furnace(s), approximate envelope dimensions, rough order of magnitude
cost estimates, brochures and/or other information concerning similar
furnaces, and a statement of qualifications and prior experience. A
response may concern only one type of furnace, any combination of two
types of furnaces, or all three types of furnaces. One or more Request
for Proposals are expected to be issued in the future for these
requirements. Posted 05/24/00 (W-SN458415). (0145) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0356 20000526\44-0003.SOL)
