58 -- NATO: IMPROVEMENT OF NATO MEWSG AIRBORNE PODS SOL D/SES/3/318/007/003 DUE 062600 POC Alexis Kemper (202-482-1512) The Defense Procurement Agency of the UK Ministry of Defense, Host Nation for this project, invites bids for the improvement of NATO's MEWSG's Airborne Electronic Warefare Jamming Pods. MEWSG provides 24 ECM pods for NATO and national exercises. The pods are flown on national military aircraft or business jet type aircraft hired from contractors. The pod designation is ALQ 167. The pods were delivered in 1984 and most have been updated over the intervening years. They are of modular design enabling some flexibility between frequency bands or to allow for variations in equipment fit. This modularity is designed to facilitate easy upgrade of the electronic equipment within the pod with only a minor effect on the flight certification or carriage on the aircraft. The Airborne Pod Improvement Program is planned to start in 2000 and be completed by 2003. The planned improvements include the following: C/D Band Pods(Quantity 7): There is a requirement for provision of digital control; facility to enable adjustment from a laptop computer of the jamming parameters. In addition, there is a need to improve the jamming capability in the D band using Digital Radio Frequency Memory techniques. G/I/J Band Pods(Quantity 8): There is a need to improve the jamming capability in the G band using Digital Radio Frequency Memory techniques. High J Band(Quantity 2): There is a requirement to improve the jamming capability in the J band using Digital Radio Frequency memory techniques. In addition, there is a need to replace the Travelling Wave Tube Amplifiers in these pods. Safety Study: There is a requirement to comply with current safety regulations. This will necessitate a safety study to be carried out for the complete systems of the improved pods taking into account existing and modified equipment. The bidders will require security clearance for up to and including NATO Secret. All applicants must be certified by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Telecommunications.
