A -- TRACKING SYSTEM FOR HIGH SPEED PROJECTILES USING ELECTRO MAGNETICS OR MAGNETICS SOL N66604-00-Q-4662 DUE 063000 POC E. Wilson, Contracting Officer at (401) 832-1929; FAX (401) 832-4820 WEB: Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division, Newport, http://www.npt.nuwc.navy.mil/contract/. E-MAIL: Ernie Wilson, Contracting Officer, wilsonej@npt.nuwc.navy.mil. This sources sought does not constitute the solicitation of a proposal. All letters of interest will be reviewed and retained. The Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport, Newport, Rhode Island, seeks potential sources to develop an Underwater Electro-magnetic or magnetic tracking system that will supply a vehicle/projectile tracking function to support full analysis of the performance of high speed underwater munitions in a controlled test environment. The system should be able to continuously determine the position and movement of the test vehicle throughout its brief run from launch to impact or capture. Data will be collected in real time by sensors precisely located within a test pond, recorded, and processed following run completion to generate a complete and accurate description of the test article's track. The test article is a 7" long by 1/2" wide base tungsten cone traveling at between 500m/s and 1200m/s. The system should be able to track the object over a distance of 0-300m. Althoughthe coverage area for tracking of very high-speed projectiles and vehicles under test is relatively small, the tracking performance required within that area is demanding. To support the detailed performance analysis that must be accomplished, detailed tracking data is needed throughout the run. At any point in time during the projectile trajectory we require that the location of the projectile be known with 95% confidence to within plus or minus 3.5ft in all directions. This corresponds to an rms position measurement error of 0.2% of the 1000ft range. Post-processing to generate the record of a test run is sufficient. Our department no longer issues solicitations or amendments in paper form. Instead, they may be accessed at our web site http://www.npt.nuwc.navy.mil/contract/. We also provide electronic access in our Bid Room. Posted 05/24/00 (W-SN458023). (0145)
