The U.S. Geological Survey, Geologic Division, Denver, Colorado, has a requirement for contractor services to provide database design and implementation in development of a prototype National Geologic Map Database to be used as a national archive containing geologic maps and related data, in accordance with the National Geologic Mapping Act of 1992-1997. The following guidelines are to be used for the prototype database: 1)Shall be developed using USGS-owned Smallworld Systems software; 2)Shall implement enforcement of the proposed North American Data Model Steering Committee (NADMSC) data model standard in a manner that incorporates and automatically enforces behavioral characteristics unique to the included geologic features during the geologic map database development and data conversion; 3)Shall provide distributed Internet access, and be scalable to support hundreds and/or thousands of simultaneous views and edit/update users; 4)Shall support existing USGS and state geological surveys technology resources consisting of multiple vendor client products used to edit and update spatial geologic data. Vendor shall be familiar with Smallworld Systems Software, object modeling, and the implementation of object/relational applications. Vendor shall be located within a two-hour drive of the Denver Federal Center so that face-to-face discussions to resolve time-critical questions can be held in an on-going manner.
