Auctioning." Description: The Federal Technology Service, Office of
Information Technology Integration has established an electronic
web-enabled auction exchange community, called buyers.gov, which will
include three new approaches to selling commodities to federal
customers; (1)Private Buye r Auctions; (2) Volume Purchasing (called
eFAST), which includes Supplier to Buyer Aggregation, and (3)Quick
Quotes. This multi-faceted app roach will use commercially available
automated tools to streamline and conduct a new form of negotiation
strategy for the procurement of in formation technology commodities.
This exchange or portal is called "buyers.gov" and has the officially
registered web address: http://buy ers.gov. The Office of Information
Technology Integration (OITI) is issuing this announcement to invite
all industry resellers to an information shar ing session beginning at
10:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday, May 23rd at the GSA Auditorium located at
18th and F Street, Washington, D.C. If you ca nnot attend this session,
there will be a second session at 10:00 a.m. EST on Tuesday, May 30th
at the GSA Auditorium located at 18th and F Street, Washington, D.C.
Resellers only need to attend one session. If at all possible, try and
make the first meeting as auctions are to begin June 2000. The purpose
of the meeting will be to share information with IT resellers of
commodities (computers, laptops, printers, monitors, etc.)regar ding
volume purchasing (eFAST) and reverse auctioning at buyers.gov. Using
the auctioning and volume purchasing concept, the orders should be
large, and can come from single customers or can be aggregated orders
from many federal buyers. Parameters and reseller requirements wil l be
shared and identified for the implementation of Buyers.gov. Buyers.gov
will provide Federal Technology customers and government agencie s
with an easy-to-use tool to conduct auctions and to aggregate similar
products from multiple customers throughout government, compare pric
es; make a decision as to which FTS vendor partner solution represents
the best price and/or value; and place an order online with selected
reseller(s). If you are an industry reseller interested in selling
commodities through volume purchasing on buyers.gov and want to
participate, PLEASE CO ME ON DOWN TO THE GSA AUDITORIUM. Enablers will
be in attendance to present their auctioning software tools and to
