NIST Contracts Office, Contract@nist.gov. The National Institute of
Standards and Technology (NIST) intends to negotiate on a sole source
basis with Dr. Eite Tiesinga, Rockville, Maryland, to provide services
to determine the feasibility of using neutral atoms trapped in optical
lattice structures for the implementation of quantum logic operations.
The project requires the evaluation of a number of technical issues
associated with the physics of interacting atoms in light fields.
F.O.B. Destination, Gaithersburg, Maryland. The period of performance
is six months from date of award. There is also an additional option
period of six months. The SIC code is 8731 and the business size is
1000. This is a sole source action with Dr. Tiesinga because he has the
specific combination of skills needed for the completion of this
project. He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of
collisions of cold atoms and photoassociation spectroscopy. Dr.
Tiesinga is familiar with the specific details and needs of the NIST
programs in cold trapped atomphysics and has a completely unique set of
skills and computer codes needed to complete this highly specialized
project. The Government intends to procure these services using
simplified acquisition procedures with an approximate award date of
June 15, 2000. See Note 26. Posted 05/25/00 (W-SN458856). (0146) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0021 20000530\B-0006.SOL)
