The work will include replacement of the existing Palm Valley Bridge over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in St. Johns County, Florida with a new bridge. The new bridge is a high rise structure providing a minimum of 65 feet clearance over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. The bridge is designed utilizing 119 feet long prestressed concrete approach spans and a 290 foot clear segmental precast girder main span. The large center span provides clearance for the 125 feet wide Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway with its side slopes. The bridge is structurally designed to accommodate the latest HS20 AASHTO truck loads and Florida Special truck loadings. Overall length of the bridge structure is approximately 2138 feet and the total length of the bridge, embankments, and roadway is 5182 feet. The clear roadway width provided by the new bridge will be 80 feet (4-12 footlanes, 2-6 foot interior shoulders, and 2-10 foot exterior shoulders). The new road and bridge alignment is designed for a design traffic speed of 45 mph. The project also includes removing the existing Bascule bridge, construction of local access roads, and construction of MSE wall systems. Proposals will be evaluated on technical and price factors.
