66 -- POSITIONING STAGE SOL NB853-004052DT DUE 061900 POC Doris Turner, Purchasing Agent, 303-497-3872 or FAX: 303-497-3163 E-MAIL: NOAA; MASC Acquisition Management, Doris.P.Turner@noaa.gov. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requires a positioning stage to be used to position specimens for x-ray diffraction studies. It will be mounted on an existing Huber kappa-geometry goniometer. This dictates requirements on physical dimensions of the x- y-z positioning stage, to be able to accommodate unlimited rotations about the 4 goniometer axes. Different applications of this goniometer-positioning stage define requirements for positioning precision, repeatability and accuracy, as listed on the following specification list. Current research programs in the Materials Reliability Division include studies of combinatorial libraries of materials and residual stresses on the micrometer scale, both requiring high- resolution spatially resolved measurements. In addition to the specifications below, we would prefer a z-stage with a horizontal top surface; however, the total height of the x-y-z assembly cannot exceed the specified height limitation. The following specifications must be met. Stage travel for all three axes shall be greater than 20 mm. Positioning for each axis shall be: 1. Precision: better than 0.1 micrometer, 2. Repeatability: better than 0.7 micrometer, 3. Accuracy: better than 1 micrometer. Dimension requirements are: 1. Both length and width of the complete x-y-z stage (in the plane of the mounting surface) shall be less than 160 mm, 2. Height of stacked x-y stages shall be less than 60 mm, 3. If z-stage is mounted at 90 degrees to the mounting surface (angle bracket), the total x-y-z stage height may exceed 100 mm, 4. If z-stage is mounted on the top of the x-y stages with the specimen mounting surface parallel to the base mount, the total x-y-z stage height shall be less than 100 mm (this configuration is preferred). Stage load capacity shall be greater than 0.5 kg. Computer control: shall accept commands from within Linux OS environment and SPEC diffractometer-control software. Interested sources proposing to supply the specified equipment must submit a written qualification statement clearly establishing capability to meet the above requirements within 15 days from the date of this synopsis. This best value procurement will be evaluated on technical merit and price. Responses are due via mail or FAX by June 19, 2000. No RFQ package is available. This procurement is being conducted per Simplified Acquisition Procedures FAR Part 13 (NTE $100,000). FAR Clauses in full text are at http://www.arnet.gov/far/.
