The Yucca Mountain Project Branch, U.S. Geological Survey, requires Paleo Climate expertise in the Yucca Mountain, Neveda, area. The purpose of this requirement/study is to provide the Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Managment (OCRWM), Deparment of Energy (DOE) with predictions of future climate in the area of Yucca Mountain, Neveda. These predictions will be based on the synthesis of existing studies of past climate, and the likelihood of past climate states to repeat in the future. The predictions of future climate in the Yucca Mountain area are necessary in order for the DOE to demonstrate compliance with Environmental Radiation Protection Standards for Yucca Mountain (Environmental Project Agency (EPA) Proposed Rule 40 CFR, Part 197). These predictions include a quantified estimate of temperature and precipitation. the predictions will be utilized as input to models of the infiltration process,a nd a portion of the studies and models utilized to assess the performance of the natural and engineered system of a potential underground geologic repository for the storage of radioactive nuclear waste. It is anticpated that the work for this requirement will be performed at the site of contractor. This contracto will be for one year with four one year renewal options. The proposed contract is not set-aside for small business, it is open to both large and small businesses. The RFP will be available on or about June 13, 2000. All responsible sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the USGS. The due date for receipt of proposal will be posted on the solicitation.
