Division previously posted this Sources Sought notice in the Commerce
Business Daily (CBD) posted on 22 May 2000, which appeared in the
printed issue on 24 May 2000. This advertisment is to amend the length
of the knife/tool from 9 1/2 to 10 1/2 inches long, and to change the
date that responses should be submitted by from 14 July 2000 to 31
July 2000. A Complete description of the Sources sought notice is AS
FOLLOWS: The Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division (NAWCAD)
Patuxent River, MD is seeking test samples and information from
potential sources for a survival knife / tool to be used by USN / USMC
aircrew. This request is for samples and information for the purpose
of establishing a list of USN / USMC approved items for possible future
procurement. Inclusion on this list in no way guarantees any future
procurement. Submitted survival knives / tools shall have maximum
stowed dimensions not exceeding 10 inches long, 2 inches wide, and 1
inch thick. Weight should not exceed 1 lb. The knife shall integrate /
fit into the current knife sheath or general survival vest pocket
without modification, should have a lanyard attachment point, and shall
not cause any interference or obstruction. The knife shall be easy to
operate (retrieve and use) with one hand under all environmental
conditions (arctic snow / ice, desert, marine, etc.) while wearing any
current Aircrew Life Support Systems equipment and clothing (gloves)
by any aircrew. It shall allow use to perform egress and survival
functions such as self-defense, build shelter, hunt, pry, dig, hammer,
utility functions, medical acts, and cut belts, straps, and ropes with
ease. It shall be made of quality materials that make item durable
enough to prevent breaking, chipping, or bending while performing
egress or survival functions after prolonged use. The knife should be
corrosion resistant. It shall be safe for stowage (no inadvertent
contact), access, and use. The knife's exterior should be
non-reflective and have color that prevents easy detection. It should
be easy to maintain with limited support equipment. Companies
responding to this request should submit two samples (both samples will
be used for tests and evaluation and will not be returned),
documentation detailing knife specifications, and ordering information

basis. This Request For Information (RFI) doesnot, in any way
constitute a Request For Proposal (RFP) nor does the Government intend
to pay for any information / items submitted in response to this
synopsis. Responses should be submitted by 31 July 2000 and reference
this synopsis number on both the packages as well as on all enclosed
documents. This synopsis does not commit the Government to award a
