Dorothy M. Bodine, dbodine@pica.army.mil. The U.S. ARMY TACOM-ARDEC is
contemplating a Sole Source Purchase Order with Veritay Technology,
4845 Mullersport Highway, P.O. Box 305, East Amherst, NY 14051-0305 for
Ablative Material Feasibility Study in Support of the FY00 Tech Base
Obturator Program. The Contractor shall inspect/calibrate the thermal
instrumentation ports and their previously installed thermocouples on
the Crusader LC3 barrel. The contractor shall support the Tech Base
Obturator Ablative Test in the acquisition of IWTC data utilizing ARDEC
obturators incorporated with ARDEC and Veritay Ablative Materials.
Testing shall be conducted at Yuma Proving Grounds, Yuma AZ utilizing
five Obturator Designs with and without ablative materials fired with
MACS zone 6 charges conditioned at ambient temperatures. A test matrix
of sixty-five (65) rounds will be fired utilizing M549A1 Projectiles
retrofitted with Ablative Obturators. The contractor shall acquire the
thermal data using its portable data acquisition system. The test
shall be conducted within five months after award of this purchase
order. The contractor shall reduce the gun test data, analyze and
document the results three weeks after the completed Tech Base
Obturator Ablative test. All information furnished for this task is
