C7514. E-MAIL: Kimberly R. Day, kimberly.day@msfc.nasa.gov. The is
modification no. 4 to the Request for Quote (RFQ) entitled Advanced
Laser Ignition Technology Demonstration, Solicitation No.
8-1-0-T6-C7514. The purpose of this modification is to answer questions
submitted by prospective offerors. The due date for receipt of offers
is extended. The due date for receipt of offers is June 5, 2000.
Question 1: Item 2 of the RFQ describes a test article. Will NASA/MSFC
fabricate two test articles and provide one to the contractor? Answer:
No, there is only single test article available for this requested
investigation because this test article will be used for other test
activities at MSFC. Consequently, MSFC requires the laser ignition
study to be conducted at MSFC. Question 2: A brief description of the
test article is also provided in Item 2. Is it a single injection
chamber or multi-injections chamber? Answer: This test article is a
multi-injection chamber. The propellant will be injected on the chamber
wall instead of at the face plate, which is also called avortex
chamber. Question 3: What is the phase of the oxidizer -- liquid oxygen
at the exit of the injector. Is it in liquid phase or gas phase?
Answer: The operation chamber pressure at the mainstage will be
approximately 1000 Psia. Cryogenic oxygen (temp.~ -265F) will be used
for this test. It is safe to assume that as it enters to the chamber,
oxidizer will be in the liquid phase prior to the iginition. Question
4: What is the flow-rate of the oxidizer? Answer: Depending on the
testing conditions, mass flow rate of oxygen will vary from 2.0 to 3.2
lbm/sec at the mainstage. Question 5: What is the oxygen ratio range
in the chamber? Answer: Mixture ratio will vary from 2.0 to 3.2.
Question 6: What is the steady-state pressure of the chamber? Answer:
Pc ~ 1000 psia. Question 7: What is the program duration? Answer:
Addressed per RFQ Item 8. Question 8: What is the program budget?
Answer: It is the responsibility of the contractor to submit proposed
costs. Posted 06/01/00 (D-SN460475). (0153) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0012 20000605\A-0012.SOL)
