ELECTRONIC RFP ANNOUNCEMENT, POTENTIAL OFFERORS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
DOWNLOADING THEIR OWN COPY OF THE SOLICITATION AND AMENDMENTS. The
Division of Cancer Control and Population Science located in the
National Cancer Institute (NCI), wants to address the gap between
people who have access to the latest Information Age tools and those
who do not. As a recent White House (2000) report emphasized, the gap
between those who do and those who do not is widening. The Digital
Divide is a special problem in health care. The Pilot pRoject to
Overcome the Digital Divide (PRODD) is an opportunity for researchers
to work with NCI's Cancer Information Service (CIS) to test strategies
aimed at increasing cancer communications in underserved communities.
One of the primary goals of this project is to intensify reductions in
the U.S. cancer burden by increasing the demand for, access to, and use
of cancer communications by diverse populations. The awards will be
made to existing CIS contractors who submit innovativebut feasible
plans for pilot projects to overcome the Digital Divide in their
regions by focusing on strategies to increase the demand for, access to
and use of cancer communications. This pilot project will serve as a
model for larger scale efforts. The anticipated solicitation issue date
is on or about June 9, 2000. Proposals will be due approximately 30
days after the issue date. The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)
Code is 8099. It is anticipated that 6-8 regions will receive awards
which will be effected as contract modifications to their existing CIS
contract with a period of performance of 12 to 18 months. The RFP may
be accessed through the Research Contracts Branch Home Page by using
the following Internet address: http://amb.nci.nih.gov/rfp.htm.
