Department of Veterans Affairs, John D. Dingell Medical Center in
Detroit, Michigan is searching for an Architect/Engineer (A/E) firm to
prepare preliminary drawings, construction drawings, bid package
documents and construction period services for a four phase
construction project to modify and upgrade mechanical systems at this
medical center. Phase I Modify Air Handling Units to include rework of
cold air intake, installation of louvers inside the air chambers to
properly mix cold air and return air, and installation of new drain
pans to eliminate standing water. Construction on Phase I is estimated
between $250,000 and $500,000. Estimated design time is 90 calendar
days. Phase II Renovate Trans Vac System for trash and linen
transportation which is inoperable due to design flaws, and raising of
hopper to provide adequate clearance for linen carts. Construction on
Phase II is estimated between $250,000 and $500,000. Estimated design
time is 150 calendar days. Phase III Upgrade Incinerator to make it
operational and pass local emission control inspections. Construction
on Phase III is estimated between $100,000 and $250,000. Estimated
design time is 200 calendar days. Phase IV Revise Kitchen Drainage to
provide pitch to all drains and eliminate the slipping hazard caused by
large puddles. This phase also includes reinstallation of the
dishwasher to eliminate contamination of the kitchen area. Construction
is estimated to be between $250,000 and $500,000. Estimated design time
is 90 calendar days. Phases should be designed concurrently with an
estimated design completion time of 200 calendar days for all phases.
The A/E should have Licensed Professional Engineers specializing in
mechanical work in addition to expert construction cost estimators. The
A/E should have experience dealing with interstitial building spaces in
modern construction. Interested firms must submit two copies of SF 254,
A/E and Related Services Questionnaire and two copies of SF 255, A/E
Questionnaire for Specific Project, no later than July 1, 2000 at 4:00
