The Wake Forest University School of Medicine in cooperation with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) and the investigators of the Study of Health Outcomes of Weight Loss (SHOW) is soliciting proposals to serve as a Central Laboratory for the Analyses of Biological Samples, Long-Term Storage of Frozen Samples, Collection and Storage of Genomic Material. Respondents may submit a proposal for any or all of the services that are detailed in the Request for Proposals (RFP). The study is a multi-center, randomized clinical trial that will compare community care with intensive lifestyle interventions designed to produce long-term weight loss (with or without weight-loss medications) in 6000 obese participants with type 2 diabetes at sixteen clinical sites. A 36 month screening and randomization phase is expected to begin in March 2001. Each participant will be followed for 4-7 years. All follow-up will be completed by March 2008.
