cooperation with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) and the investigators of the Study of Health
Outcomes of Weight Loss (SHOW) is soliciting proposals to serve as a
Central ECG Reading Center. The study is a multi-center, randomized
clinical trial that will compare community care with intensive
lifestyle interventions designed to produce long-term weight loss (with
or without weight-loss medications) in 6000 obese participants with
type 2 diabetes at sixteen clinical sites. A 36 month screening and
randomization phase is expected to begin in March 2001. Each
participant will be followed for 4-7 years. All follow-up will be
completed by March 2008. A contract will be awarded to the most
competitive respondent to an RFP issued May 30, 2000. Click here to
