E-MAIL: B. Terry Cobb, t.g.cobb@larc.nasa.gov. NASA/LaRC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for Inflatable, Rigidizable Column Test Specimens. The contractor shall fabricate and deliver twelve test articles, thermoset inflatable-rigidizable column program at LaRC. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). NASA/LaRC intends to purchase the items from ILC Dover, Inc. Previous inflatable-rigidizable thermoset columns to the structural characterization test program were fabricated by ILC Dover, Inc. FY99. ILC Dover, Inc.'s fabrication process is unique and not the same as used by other companies. ILC Dover also uses a proprietary resin in the fabrication of its inflatable rigidizable columns, not available from other companies. Maintaining continuity in the test program is required for a valid data base. Under authority of FAR 6.302-1. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
