OPPORTUNITY FOR CTOs ON THE DEFENSE TRAVEL SYSTEM. The Department of
Defense (DoD) announces a Defense Travel System (DTS)
familiarization/informational session available to any interested party
considering a proposal submission for the DoD DTS Travel Services
follow-on solicitation. Interested large and small businesses are
encouraged to attend for informational purposes, however, this event is
voluntary and participation or non-participation in no way effects any
future proposal submission on the DoD DTS Travel Services follow-on
solicitation The solicitation, when released, will identify a Defense
Travel System (DTS) requirement to provide all personnel, equipment,
tools, materials, supervision, and other items and services necessary
to perform official travel management services for the DoD. Although
the comment period has closed, the draft solicitation is posted for
reference on the following web site: http://www.dtic.mil/travelink/. A
series of two-day session have been scheduled at Fair Lakes, Virginia.
Available start dates are 26 through 29 June, 5 through 6 July, and 10
through 13 July 2000. Each interested party may request one session.
DayOne (1100-1700) will be a group session, (for up to five
representatives from each of three interested parties ), consisting of
a DTS overview and a "hands-on" demonstration of the processes a
traveler and an authorizing official will use upon implementation of
full DTS. Day-Two will consist of one three-hour individual session
(either 0800-1100, or 1130-1430, or 1500-1800) affording the
representatives from a single interested party the opportunity to work
a series of scripted travel scenarios in concert with DTS PMO and
contractor personnel. Each interested party shall forward a request to
the DTS PMO address below indicating preferred date and time (for
Day-Two) plus an alternate date and time. Every effort will be made to
accommodate specific requests, however, available slots will be filled
in the order the requests are received. Once confirmation has been
provided and accepted by the interested party, the Government reserves
the right to deny rescheduling requests. Interested parties are
allowed to bring a maximum of five personnel to the sessions. Video
cameras, tape recorders or any other type of recording media is not
allowed. The demonstration environment will include automation that the
commercial travel office may utilize with the DTS such as the DTS
software on a PC linked with the Common User Interface (CUI), a Global
Distribution System (GDS) and access to the Air Mobility Command's
Global Air Transportation Execution System (GATES) reservations
software. Interested parties will have the opportunity to view data
input and data output from initial travel authorization up to the
travel voucher process. Additionally, the interested parties will have
the opportunity for hands-on interaction. It is recommended at a
minimum that one member of the interested party be prepared to monitor
the GDS for processing incoming travel requests and one member of the
interested party be prepared to input travel requests into the DTS CUI
system. Requests to schedule a session (to include a preference for a
primary/alternate date and a specific three-hour session on Day Two)
shall be submitted electronically to DTSContracting@osd.pentagon.mil
not later than 1600 on 16 June 2000. Additional logistical information
will be provided with confirmation of request and be made available on
