intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12 and the
Simplified Acquisition Procedures set forth in FAR Part 13. This notice
is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items prepared in
accordance with the format in FAR Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with
additional information included in this notice. This announcement
constitutes the only solicitation, which is issued as a Request for
Quotation (RFQ); quotes are being requested and a written solicitation
will not be issued. The information required by FAR Subpart 12.6 is
included in the on-line RFQ linked above or it may be accessed at
http://procurement.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/EPS/bizops.cgi?gr=C&pin=. NASA/GRC
plans to acquire high speed modulator/demodulators per the following
salient characteristics: 1) 8PSK Modulation/Demodulation, Rate 5/6, 68
Mbit/s, Maximum for a 36 MHz transponder; 2) QPSK
Modulation/Demodulation, Rate 7/8, 45 Mbit/s, Maximum for a 36 MHz
transponder; 3) HSSI Serial Interface; 4) 76 Ohm modulatorinput,
demodulator output impedances; 5) Digital data rates 1 to 100 Mbit/s,
in 1bit/s steps; 6) Symbol rates 1 to 37.5 Msyms/s; 7)
Reed-Solomon(outer) FEC; 8) DVB compliance; 9) convolutional
interleaving; 10) front panel and remote control interfacing
(terminal-type or advanced); 11) front panel status indicatins; 12)
modulator and demodulator manuals. Desirable characteristics include
modulator weight of less than 15 lbs., demodulator weight of less than
15 lbs., and delivery 30 days after vendor receipt of order. Questions
regarding this acquisition must be submitted in writing (e-mail is
acceptable) no later than June 19, 2000. It is the quoter's
responsibility to monitor this site for the release of amendments (if
any). Potential quoters will be responsible for downloading their own
copy of this notice, the on-line RFQ and amendments (if any). An
