Yeatts, (703)648-7382 E-MAIL: Click here to contact the contracting
officer via, pyeatts@usgs.goc. The U.S.Geological Survey (USGS) is
conducting market research in regards to the acquisition of a Submetrix
2000 Sidescan Sonar and Bathymetry surveying system. Based on
information available at this time, the USGS considers the required
system to be sole-source and plans to enter into non-competitive
discussions with Submetrix, of Bath BA2 9ER, United Kingdom. The system
must possess the following technical features: Must not be in a towed
body configuration. Must be portable enough to mount on any ship bow or
in a side mount configuration. Must be delivered as a complete and
stand-alone system. This will include necessary mounting and rigging
hardware, all necessary cabling to and from the sensor head, all
necessary amplifiers, shipboard data collection and processing hardware
and software. The transmitted SONAR signal must be in the range of 230
kilohertz. Must acquire side scan SONAR and co-registered
interferometric bathymetery data. System must be capable of interfacing
with all existing USGS data processing software. All data must be
compatible with USGS processing software. Must be able to mount a
motion reference unit to the transducer head. Must accept external
navigation, and compass information. Must be able to collect data in a
swath that measures at least ten times the water depth, uses the
interometric method for determining depth soundings, The data
acquisition computer used to store the swath bathymetric information
must run under Microsoft Windows NT. The data acquisition computer used
to store the swath bathymetric information shall have the ability to be
linked via ethernet connections to USGS computers during vessel
cruises. This system shall be delivered on or before September 1, 2000.
Any responses to this synopsis should contain sufficient technical
documentation and descriptive literature to sufficiently describe
system capabilities. All responses will be evaluated to determine
whether that firm has full knowledge and capabilities to meet the USGS
requirement. No alternative proposals will be accepted. The Government
will not pay for information provided in response to this synopsis.
This notice is not a request for competitive proposals. This notice may
