development of JTRS to provide warfighters with a family of affordable,
high-capacity modular communications systems for line-of-sight and
beyond line-of-sight C4I capabilities that are fully networked,
digital, wireless communications systems to operate throughout the
joint battlespace. The JTRS system will be a secure, multi-band,
multi-mode, software programmable digital communications system that
supports a broad range of C4I requirements. The system is planned to be
designed by industry with an open technical architecture (currently
referred to as the Software Communications Architecture (SCA)) to
permit cost effective product interoperability. Posted 06/07/00
