Specialist, 309-782-3392 The U.S. Government, TACOM-Rock Island,
Illinois, is seeking sources for a Boring Machine, Engine Cylinder,
portable or frame mounted. The required Boring Machine is a portable
cylinder boring bar that is mounted directly onto an engine block and
is clamped thereon through an adjoining cylinder. The desired machine
is a Size 2 in accordance with Commercial Item Description number
A-A-50314 with a boring capacity as listed herein. The Army is also
interested in the availability of this same size and capacity boring
bar, that is permanently mounted to a frame or stand and that will also
support the engine block during the boring operation. Specific Capacity
and Accuracy requirements (per A-A-50314) are as shown: Capacity: Size
2. The Size 2 boring machine is capable of boring cylinder diameters
in a size range of from at least 3.50 to no less than 7.50 inches, with
a bore stroke of at least 18 inches. Depth of cut. The boring machine
is capable of producing a rough-cut depth of 0.040 inch and a
finish-cut depth of 0.015 inch in a cast iron engine block. Each depth
of cut specified above is to be accomplished in a single pass.
Accuracy. When the boring machine is operated at the finish-cut depth,
the finished bore is to be within the following limits: Diameter: +
0.001 inch; Taper: 0.001 inch in maximum length bore; Out-of-roundness:
0.001 inch; Surface roughness: 63 micro inches, arithmetical average.
