order to Avon Bearings of Avon, Ohio for one spare Avon p/n: 1575A1,
S/N: 7, precision, large-diameter turntable bearing, hereafter called
Azimuth Bearing. This azimuth bearing will support the rotating
components of an elevation over azimuth antenna configuration. The main
rotating components are a six-meter, parabolic reflector, cabin and
receiver having a combined weight of approximately 90,000 lbs. The
antenna assembly is used at the summit of Mauna Kea, HI, at an altitude
of 14,000 feet. This bearing must support the weight of the antenna
rotating components while operating in wind speeds up to 45mph. The
bearing must be capable of withstanding ambient temperatures between -5
and +25 degrees C and a relative humidity not greater than 25%. In
addition, it must be capable of withstanding wind loads up to 135mph
and non-operating temperatures between -10 and 50 degrees C with a
relative humidity of 50%. The nominal diameter of the azimuth bearing
is 80 inches and the bearing shall include an integral gear on the
outer bearing race. A determination by SAO not to compete this proposed
