Medical Center is seeking sources that can provide a patient monitoring
system, to monitor patients with dementia or other cognitive
impairments. The system must be able to sound an alarm to the nursing
staff when a patient, who is at risk for wandering or elopement from
the ward. System should function similar to the following description.
When a patient reaches a certain distance (approximately three to four
feet) from a door exiting the ward the door will electromagnetically
lock while it simultaneously send a warning signal to the nursing staff
on the ward. The system must designed so that the doors on the unit may
be unlocked permitting free passage in and out of the ward. The system
shall automatically be activated when a patient wearing some sort of
signaling device (e.g., wrist band), nears the exit doors. The doors
shall be capable of being opened when locked, by either 30 seconds of
constant pressure and/or the use of a numeric keypad switch. System
shall be equipped with a remote signaling device in the nurses station
and a minimum of two paging devices to be worn by nursing staff on the
ward, which will automatically send a signal to the pagers when the
door alarm is triggered. The alarm system must be able to be powered
from the VA medical center electrical supply and tie into the current
fire alarm system so it is deactivated in the event the fire alarm
system is activated. System must be able to monitor, at a minimum, ten
patients, with OBRA approved wrist or ankle signaling transmitters
which have an active life of at least 90 days. The patient worn devices
shall be such that they cannot be readily removed by the patient but
can be easily removed by nursing staff. Patient worn devices shall be
water resistant. The entire system shall have battery backup in the
event of electrical power failure. This is a request for product
information only! This is not a request for proposal (RFP). The VA does
not intend to pay for information received. Requests for copies of a
solicitation shall not be honored or acknowledged. Information should
be forwarded to the Contracting Officer by June 19, 2000. VA shall
review information from which a requirement may or may not result.
